How to Choose Your Contractor

How to Choose the Right Contractor- Questions to ask!

    1. How long have you been in the industry?
You wouldn't choose someone who is fresh out of medical school to do a surgery for you, or take your car to a mechanic who has only been on the job for 2 weeks would you?? You want to know that the contractor you choose is knowledgeable in the field and has EXPERIENCE.

     2. Do you have a list of references?
The contractor you decide to use should have a list of references from past customers that are happy enough with the work the company did, to allow them to provide photos and sometimes even contact information or their address if you would like to drive by to look at the work from the outside.

    3. Are you licensed, bonded & insured?
Some states do not require contractors to have licenses, like Texas for example. If the state does not require a license, you still want to make sure that the contractor is Bonded & Insured.  If a contractor is "bonded", that means that you are financially protected if the contractor does not complete your job, or if the job is executed poorly.  "Insured" means that any liability claims that may arise during a job will be covered.

    4. Where can I find your reviews?
Ask the potential contractor if they have any reviews they can show you or if they can tell you where you can find the reviews. If a company does not have any reviews at all, that could be a red flag.

    5. What will happen if I am not satisfied or something goes wrong?
Your potential contractor should be able to tell you what measures they will take in the event that a mistake is made during the job. No company is perfect and mistakes will happen sometimes. What matters truly is what they will do to make it right and the service that you receive in order to make sure that you are satisfied at the end of the job.

    6. Will you tear off my old roof?
Sometimes a contractor will try to put new shingles on top of your existing shingles. In most cases this is not ideal. It is best for the roofers to rip all of the old material off, so that they can thoroughly inspect the decking underneath and ensure it is not rotten.

    7. Are you an authorized installer?
Is the contractor a preferred partner or authorized installer for the shingle manufacturer? Cover 3 Roofing is an authorized installer for Atlas Shingles, and that means that we are able to offer our workmanship warranty as well as the manufacturer's warranty.

Repair, Patch or Replace??

REPAIR, PATCH OR REPLACE? When to repair or patch your roof: Every roof needs to be replaced eventually, but the good news is that you may be able to repair or patch it! If there is only minor damage, your roof is still fairly new, or only a small area has been affected, this may be a sign that only a repair or patch job is warranted. A fallen branch, or even wind could affect only a certain area or areas of the roof.  When your roof may need  to  be fully replaced: As mentioned in our last blog post, age is one of the most common reasons your roof would need to be replaced. If you notice a significant amount of missing shingles or shingles that have missing granules and clogging gutters, it is most definitely time to replace your full roofing system. Are your shingles curling at the edges or discolored? These are sure signs that the efficiency of your roof is declining. The biggest concern would be sagging in the roof, as this points to rotting and you may need some, if ...
